WHAT FOLLOWS IS A DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF HOW WE WILL SPEND OUR NEXT SEMESTER. PLEASE RETURN TO THIS PAGE AT ANY POINT IF YOU ARE CONFUSED.

MAIN IDEA

We will be learning about some of the most impactful Musical Theatre composers and what they contributed to the form. Some of you will be researching, others will perform. Those roles will then switch.

HOW IT WORKS

Split the class into groups of six. Each group will spin the wheel and be assigned a musical theatre composer for their process.  That team will then divide into researchers and performers. The performers will each choose a piece by their composer than they will learn about and perform. The researchers will give us a background on the composer, an overview of their career and meaningful projects. 

EXAMPLE

Cassidy, Hattie, and Ryan are our researchers.  Lily, Kalena and Ollia are our performers. They spin the wheel, they win the jackpot! Lin Manuel Miranda!

Lily, Kalena, and Ollia would each choose pieces composed by LMM. Lily chooses a piece from In The Heights, Kalena choose something from Hamilton, Ollia chooses to sing Moana. 

 

The researchers would then commence researching LMM's background, career, and major projects - Especially in The Heights, Hamilton, and Moana, because those are the shows the performers landed on. This ensures we learn about the composer, their projects, and get a little sample as well. 

These roles then flip, and you are assigned a new composer for the second round.
