The following assignment applies to all students in the Theatre/Full Conservatory
ALL TAPES MUST BE SUBMITTED 24 HOURS BEFORE CLASS ON TUESDAY.
Blooper reels are encouraged and enjoyed.

EMBODIMENT OF CHARACTER
Choose a song that you feel has strong storytelling potential.
Imagine the character that might be telling that story. Create them. Embody them.
You may choose any song outside of the musical theatre cannon for this assignment.
PART ONE
Please submit a reading of your lyrics.
Treat this as a monologue, remove musicality, meter, and original context.
Use our "songologue" class work.
PART TWO
Perform your chosen song in character.
Perform as much of the song as you'd like, but at least one minute.
Remember that you may adjust the key of the song if you wish.
As usual, make creative acting choices that are grounded in your chosen character.
Take advantage of your environment, feel free to use props, costumes or other people.
Film horizontally, in good lighting, with appropriate background.
No slate necessary.
DECEMBER 1ST
YOUR NEWSIES AUDITION
1 minute monologue
32 (about a minute) bar contemporary musical theatre song
(ideally this should be a song that aligns with the character you most identify with and the style of the show)
Please wear, act, and perform exactly what you hope to share in the audition room.
Read the following parameters carefully.
Film horizontally, in good lighting, with appropriate background.
Slate at the top of your song with your name and title of your piece, then sing.
Slate again with the title and author of your monologue, no need to say your name again.
Say "thank you" when you are done. :)
If you would like to include the role you are auditioning for, it should sound like:
"And I would like to be considered for the role of______"

EMBODIMENT OF EMOTION

Listen through until you've found three performance options for yourself,
We will then discuss in class which piece is the best choice of the moment.
Do not slate. Instead, perform in character and stage an interesting picture.
Determine how much of the song you can make authentic and interesting, and perform up to that length. It should be at least 1 minute. You have creative license.
APRIL 19th
RETURN OF THE REPERTOIRE
Select a piece of music or writing that you have studied before. Ideally this would be something 2-3 years old, but necessarily something older than 1 year.
Perform this piece again with the perspective and tools gained since.
If possible, please provide some example of the original performance.
